PJCA Executive Received Tamgha-e-Imtiaz

Ms. Nigar Nazar, Executive Member of Pakistan Japan Cultural Association (PJCA), Islamabad and a renowned Pakistani cartoonist is conferred ‘Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” by the President Islamic Republic of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi. To acknowledge her efforts for promoting women empowerment in the society, she is honored with fourth highest civil award of Pakistan in 2023. She was decorated in a prestigious ceremony held in Aiwan-e-Saddar, Islamabad on March 23, 2023. She is also the recipient of the Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah Award from the government of Pakistan and received the Booruker UNESCO prize in 1997 for her work at an orphanage in Kyrgyzstan.

Her work was featured in a solo exhibition at the University of Alcalá in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, from January 27 through March 5, 2023. The show “Gogi Visita España (Gogi Visits Spain)” showcased Nazar’s signature character

Gogi, a young, progressive Pakistani woman who frequently addresses issues like women’s rights and climate change in humorous ways. Nazar has drawn the newspaper strip since 1970. She also gave a lecture titled “Toward Equality with Humor,” which was broadcast live on the university’s YouTube channel, and she conducted workshops at an elementary school, a high school, and the university.

Her comic books have impacted 95,000 children from Gilgit to Baluchistan. The Gogi comic books are circulated from village to village in Baluchistan on the Camel mobile Library. Testimonials have it that the books have made behavioral change in awareness for the young minds.
