“No man is indispensable but some are irreplaceable.” Revered by his family, friends and colleagues equally, Justice (R) Ali Nawaz Chohan, President of Pakistan Japan Cultural Association (PJCA), was laid to rest on Monday, September 4 at his family graveyard in Rawalpindi. Justice Ali Nawaz Chauhan was the father of barrister Qasim Ali Chauhan and Hashim Ali Chauhan and father-in-law of member NH Ikram Saqlain Haider.
Mr. Mushtaq Moeeni, Secretary General of PJCA and Sardar Omar Durrani, Executive Member PJCA represented the Executive Committee of PJCA in the Namaz e Janaza.
Justice Chohan is survived by his widow, sons Barrister Qasim Ali Chohan, Hashim Ali Chohan and daughter Maria Haider. His funeral was held on Monday at 5:30pm after Asr prayers near Gulbarg Town at Dhoke Khabba in his family graveyard.
Mr. Justice Ali Nawaz Chowhan was elected as President of Pakistan Japan Cultural Association (PJCA) in August 2021. During his tenure PJCA organized various cultural activities to promote the existing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Japan. PJCA celebrated 50th year of its founding and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Pakistan in 2022 under his dynamic leadership. He was also the Ex-Judge Lahore High Court Ex-Judge International Court of Justice Ex-Secretary Law Punjab Ex-Session Judge Chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Ex-Chief Justice State of Gambia.
Justice Chohan was honorary consul of the Republic of Gambia in Islamabad. Justice Chohan had served as the chief justice of Gambia from March 6, 2014 to May 12, 2015. In 2015, he was appointed as the chairman of the National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR).
