The Ambassador of France to Pakistan, H.E. Nicolas Galey, hosted a distinguished ceremony at the French Residence in Islamabad to confer the prestigious Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) on Mr. Syed Jamal Shah — renowned artist, cultural leader, President of the Pakistan Japan Cultural Association (PJCA), and Chairman of the Silk Road Cultural Center (SRCC), as well as former Federal Minister for National Heritage & Culture.
This high French honor, established in 1957, recognizes Mr. Shah’s lifelong contributions to art, literature, heritage, and cultural dialogue, particularly in fostering stronger cultural ties between Pakistan and France.
Ambassador Galey praised Mr. Shah’s remarkable journey as a sculptor, painter, actor, filmmaker, teacher, and mentor, celebrating his philosophy of “resistance through art and art through resistance.”
The ceremony was graced by diplomats, artists, intellectuals, and cultural figures — along with Mr. Shah’s family, including his two daughters and son, making the moment even more memorable.
This recognition marks not only a personal milestone for Syed Jamal Shah but also a proud achievement for the Pakistan Japan Cultural Association and Pakistan’s cultural identity.
