• Symbolizes the spirit of Japan around the world
• Cherry blossom season is a national cultural event (Hanami)
• Represents beauty and the fleeting nature of life
So:
Official national flower: Chrysanthemum (Kiku)
Widely recognized cultural flower: Cherry Blossom (Sakura)
